Can you re fill a stolen keg?

there is nothing illegal about this, but I have a keg that I received from a friend. and I just heard he stole it, there is a serial number on it. just curious what would happen if I try to re fill it at the liquor store? has any one done it before? I've had many keggers and they normally just give me a whole new keg and take back the one I rented. but this one is not rented and was most likely stolen from a bar. ALL I want to know is what will happen if I try to re fill it. only answer if YOU KNOW what will happen. thank you for reading.
